Our Strength is our Community.

We are so lucky to live here.

Think of what we have going for us in Jackson County. Reliable public services and facilities, an airport connection to the world, a vibrant commercial and business community, a university and great community college, more recreational and cultural treasures than you’ll find in some states, high-quality medical care, world-class forests and farmlands, one of America’s great salmon-bearing rivers, nearly perfect weather — all on the West Coast’s major Interstate, accessible to the outside world but undamaged by it.

Beyond all of that there’s the people who live here, and what they’re willing to do for this community. For our community. Just take a look at some of the Community Building Blocks showing up all around us. They’ll amaze you.

From the Rotary and other service clubs to the Granges, from United Way to school foundations, from Access and the Ashland Food Project to the Rogue River Senior Center, from the anti-Meth Task Force to Hearts and Vines to Make A Wish to Kids Unlimited, from Mediation Works to Britt to the FFA and 4-H Clubs, from Little Leagues to the Sparrow Club to the Grower Markets, from Head Start to Hospice, we’re surrounded by people working together to make this place even better.

Great projects and progress are more likely to come from community groups than the Courthouse or City Hall, but is county government doing what it can to help?  We don’t think so. Beyond providing the basic services we need, it’s time for county government to step up as a positive partner.  Any group that is serious about

    • supporting locally-owned businesses that keep their profits in the community
    • developing durable, high quality jobs, especially in the forests and clean energy production
    • bolstering agriculture, from small family farms to larger ranches and orchards
    • securing the water our valley needs, now and in the future
    • developing transportation options that won’t lead to more and more traffic jams
    • advancing the well-being of our children and opportunities of our young adults

should be hearing this question:
How can county government help what you’re doing?”

What are the key issues and priorities?
